Jack slowly opened his eyes as he felt himself slipping back into the conscious world. He felt more groggy than usual . . . and it took him a minute to properly open his eyes and orientate himself. His surroundings were unfamiliar but eventually, everything came back to him. He was in the hospital . . . for something he never thought he'd ever need to be in the hospital for. Bobby's words came rushing back to his mind: trying to set a record for youngest man who had a heart attack. That certainly seemed like the case.

He then noticed something -- or someone -- more familiar than the room around him. His two front paws were on the bed and his tail wagging excitedly. "Hey buddy," Jack greeted in a low voice, raising his hand to pet Levi on the head. He slightly turned his head, now finally realizing that Sue was lying next to him. He gave a small smile, touched that she had stayed here with him . . . slept here, in what he knew must be uncomfortable. Watching her for a moment -- as best as he could from this angle -- he turned back to Levi.

"Let's not wake her up," he told him, wanting Sue to get however much rest she could. He hadn't meant to worry her when all this had happened, though knew he had. It truly just showed how short life could be and he felt so incredibly blessed that he was with those he most cared for . . . and that he was still around to continue to be with them. Especially the woman that lay next to him right now.

Sue was resting after being at the hospital all night. She knew she wasn't supposed to stay, but after pretending to be sleep when the nurse came in--they let her stay this time. She could feel Jack move slightly under her, and when she opened her eyes slightly to see Levi on the edge of the bed. His front paws were there resting, and Jack was giving him attention. She smiled against this skin, and tilted her face up to Jacks. "You spoil him." She teased, knowing she didn't mind. Levi still did his job and since he worked so hard he had earned some spoiling.

Her fingers moved moved, casually but with purpose, to rest over his heart. "How do you feel today?" He was slowly recovering from a heart attack, and it had shaken them both. She had been so afraid that she would loose him, and it made her want to protect him. He had a few weeks of recovery after this, and Sue was planning to take off the first few days to help him get rested at his house before going back to work. All this was after he would eventually get out of the hospital.

Jack turned to look at her when he heard that she was awake, his lips curving into a smile. "I can't help it," he admitted sheepishly. "Though maybe he's the one spoiling me," Jack suggested. He did enjoy the attention that Levi gave him as well. He felt the warmth of her touch as she placed her hand over his still beating heart. A heart beat that just needed to be controlled.

"Never better," he told her, not entirely kidding. Her company certainly help him feel a lot more at ease. Emotionally anyway. Though his mind was still processing the entire ordeal. And out . . . outside of his control this was. "How about you?" He asked in return. "Did you sleep alright?" He knew she couldn't have been incredibly comfortable, and yet the fact that she had spent the night here with him . . . meant a great deal to him. She meant a great deal to him.
