Now Jack of course knew that Sue wasn't technically an agent as that required a whole different level of credentials and training. And he knew that with that, meant that she was not permitted to carry any firearms. Still. It didn't mean that she shouldn't learn how to shoot. One never knew what could happen in the heat of the moment where she was forced to protect herself.

She had already dodged several bullets, and Jack wanted her to learn to defend herself in extreme cases. While he hoped it never came to that, and that she would not be placed in any danger . . . the reality of their jobs was that she could be. And had been. This was just one more to protect oneself. And who better than himself to teach her. Besides, it made a nice outing for evening.

When they arrived at the gun range, Jack greeted the worker, someone he knew as this was not the first time he'd been there. He introduced Sue to him and Jack selected their guns, picking what he felt would be a good first time weapon for Sue. Nothing difficult to control or too heavy to bare. The man handed Jack two pairs of ear muffs, one of which he reflexively handed to Sue without thinking twice about it. He paused for a moment and then gave a slightly sheepish smile. "Right . . . " He said, mentally kicking himself for not having thought it through.

Sue was excited to learn to shot a gun! More so since it wasn't at anyone, but at a target. Since Levi didn't like loud sounds, Lucy was keeping him at home for a few hours while Jack took Sue to learn the basics. Walking into the place she wondered if there was a loud sound here, or if the walls kept the sound in. While she couldn't hear the sounds, she did wonder about them. When she turned to look at Jack he picked up some muffs and then paused. Sue liked that he didn't spend every moment thinking of her deafness.

Reaching out, Sue took the muffs and put them on her ears. Nothing changed for her. She still didn't hear anything, but it didn't stop her from using it as a moment to tease Jack. "Now it wont affect my hearing." She explained in a humorous but factual tone. Reaching for his pair of muffs, she pulled them open to put them on Jack's head. Can you hear me? She signed, rather then spoke. More of a joke toward them both then at his expense. Jack might know enough sign to understand that sentence.

Jack chuckled when she put on the headphones anyway, saying it wouldn't affect her hearing. He loved that she could play along with . . . these clear oversights and moments of ignorance on his part. Her sense of humor was one of the many reasons he . . . enjoyed her company. Deeply.

He smiled as she put the earmuffs on him and signed as to whether he could hear her. He was still learning ASL but understood the gist of what she was saying. He was playing along though, and signed back Sorry, what? I can't hear you he joked. It was so easy to be around her; so natural, so effortless. Even at a gun range they could have some fun like this. Ready? He signed with a slight wink, getting his gun ready.
